Mike Thiriot began playing guitar at a young age. He studied under local musician, Pat Terry. When in high school, he frequently got together with friends to play Rush, Queensryche, and Metallica.

Mike attended Ricks College in Rexburg, Idaho. While there, he performed in the dance band and Showtime Company band. With Showtime, Mike toured California, Texas, and Canada. His sophomore year, he was in the jazz ensemble, and a bluegrass band, backing up the American Folk Dancing Ensemble. With that group, he toured Germany and Rome.

After college, Mike was in various bands, including Misconception, Iron Rod, and Distant Vision. With Distant Vision, he covered songs by Rush, Dream Theater, Steve Vai, and Eric Johnson.

Mike is also a guitar teacher. He started teaching while at college, even substituting for the professor in Jazz Improv. He was an instructor at Mars Music in Salt Lake City from 1999 until they closed the Salt Lake location in 2001.
